Lunch in Boulder City from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. We had a slow day yesterday. Our only plan was to go have lunch in Boulder City, and then get some fudge to enjoy with our afternoon cup of espresso. Before leaving, I spent some time on my embroidery, filling my hoop.

While I worked on that, the kitties shared some of their wheat grass.

We waited for the noon crowd to clear out, and then headed over to the Boulder Dam Brewing Co. We try to have at least one meal here each time we're in Boulder City. I inadvertantly caught a selfie when ...

The Reveal: Freckled Frog from ... Cat Patches

Good morning my friends. It's time to reveal my quilt for the "Patterns in Nature" prompt. My quilt was inspired by the Northern Leopard Frogs we encountered while hiking in Fort Ransom State Park in North Dakota. This is my original photograph. You can see more pictures from our hike at that link I've given you.

Initially, I didn't see how I was going to recreate him with the fabrics I had available. Then, I came across a swatch of this McKenna Ryan fabric in my stash. Doing a quick internet search, I was able to find ...

All Sewing, All the Time from ... Cat Patches

Well, I had big ideas about things I was going to do yesterday, including making a lasagna for our visit with California friends. There was at least one housekeeping chore on yesterday's agenda too. Did I do any of that? Are you kidding? Well...the answer is no. I was close to finishing my quilt, and nothing was going to stand in my way. Unless you include my cat. He stands in my way a lot when I'm quilting.

When he sees me quilting, he thinks it's time to call in reinforcements: Him.

Okay, but just moving ...

A Day for Slow Stitching from ... Cat Patches

While I had every intention of machine sewing yesterday, the Resident Electrician had other ideas. In fairness to him, he was finished with his work around 2:00 p.m., but it seemed late in the day to drag everything out by that time. Instead, I spent the day on slow-stitching.

First up was the day's inchy. This one took a little longer than the rest. It's stitched in backstitch, cross-stitch, French knots, and double lazy daisy stitches.

After that, I worked on finishing up the fourth snowflake. I needed to finish stitching around the outside edge...all ...

A Sewing Day from ... Cat Patches

It was windy for most of the day yesterday. The RV park is adjacent to and somehow connected to a winery and small vineyard. We ended up walking over to the tasting room yesterday morning. We were on the hunt for a wine we'd purchased on our last visit here two years ago. None was available, and so what could we do but taste what was available? While there, we spoke with the two women behind the counter who informed us the wind would be with us for the next two weeks. This was dismaying since it would be ...

A Driving Day from Cat Patches

We drove from Hemet, California, to Pahrump, Nevada, yesterday. As far as distances go, it wasn't so far...about 260 miles. Traffic was light, and the weather was good. Still, somehow the day seemed very long. The scenery was boring most of the way. We had to get through Barstow before anything of interest showed itself. The area between Hemet and Barstow is brown, dry, and uninteresting. We stopped in Barstow for lunch, mainly because there was a Carl's, Jr., that advertised "RV Parking" on a very tall sign. And, hey...count us in when it comes to ...

Quilt Shop: Primitive Gatherings, Murrieta, California from ... Cat Patches

My thanks go to my friend, Crew at Cabin Central, who gave me the heads up about the Primitive Gatherings Quilt shop about a half an hour away. We stopped on our way to the Oceanside Pier yesterday, and what a lot of fun! You can find its web presence right here. It's an easy shop to find, located in an industrial park, easy on and off the freeway with plenty of room to park Mike's pig of a truck...always appreciated. Approaching the storefront, it looks like this:

Step inside the front door, and this is what ...

A Day to Do Nothing from ... Cat Patches

There wasn't much going on here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch yesterday. The temperatures warmed up a little from the day before, but not as hot as the previous two days. My plans included sewing, but then Mike was working on a project, and he was spread all over the interior of the RV. Since my sewing also likes to take up every flat surface, our projects were at odds with one another. In a show of great magnanimity, I gave him the time and space to finish what he was working on...mainly, because I wanted him ...

Some Tiny Sewing from ... Cat Patches

There wasn't much on yesterday's agenda beyond sewing, and so I went back to work on the placemats that were started the day before.

Let's all paws here for a moment to admire how purrfectly this fabric matches my furs.

Sadie was my consultant about jazzing these up a little with different fabrics, and this is what I came up with.

Now they're sewn together and sandwiched for quilting. I wish I'd made the strips on the right a little wider, but I'll stick with them as they are. The quilting adds a lot ...

purple lantern block from Making A Lather

I have another tiny tuesday block finished from the rainbow scrap challenge. I used a batting design board to lay the pieces the way I wanted them to go. I think the block was called lantern.

I sewed each row. The smallest purple went with the largest neutral, and so on.

And, then, I sewed the rows together. It needed a trim.

This blocks is set with a straight border finishing at 7 inches

We have had a big snow with single digit temperatures, We are not used to it this so early. But, it is so pretty, and, the ...

tiny purple blocks from Making A Lather

I think the change of seasons, and the switch from daylight savings time, has messed with my motivation. I am still going about the motions of sewing, but, with little or no desire to get things done. sigh..
I have 2 more tiny tuesday blocks to add to the pile, but they took days.

I think, maybe, it is hard to get excited about anything at this point in the year. I don't want to start anything new until after the holidays. and I don't want to work on anything that I know won't be finished this ...
